How to Create a Naming Convention for your Facebook Ads Manager

In our previous blog, we discussed Facebook Ads Manager set-up and best practices. Knowing how to best set up and maintain your Facebook Ads Manager is the first step in successfully organizing it. Learning how to create a naming convention is the second step.

Establishing a set naming convention for all your campaigns will help you find the campaign faster and allow you to search for and filter specific campaigns more easily. It also allows others to step in and work on your campaigns more efficiently. There is nothing worse than having to spend an obscene amount of time just trying to figure out which campaigns are which!

Facebook Ad Naming Convention Elements

To create a naming convention, we recommend including elements such as such as date range, subject matter, and either objective or audience.

The following is an example of a Hiring Ad campaign. We first created the campaign structure for 2021 Hiring Ads. Then, the Ad Sets within the Campaign are dedicated to the month. So, in this example, we created an Ad Set for October 2021 Hiring Ads for College Students and an Ad Set for November 2021 Hiring Ads for Marketing Account Managers. You’ll see how the ads for each of the Ad Sets have a similar naming convention, which makes it easy to find and track.

Ads Manager Organization Option 1:

Campaign: [Year] [Campaign Name] – [Campaign Goal]

  • Ad Set for Campaign: [Year] – [Month] [Campaign Name] – [Audience

    • Ads for Campaign: [Year] – [Month] [Campaign Name] – [Ad Name/Audience]

Campaign: 2021 Hiring Ads – Website Traffic

  • Ad Set:

    2021-10 Hiring Ads – College Students

    2021-11 Hiring Ads – Marketing Account Managers

    • Ad:

      2021-10 Hiring Ads – Social Media Assistant
